Location/Opening Times

Club members can turn up at any time they want and shoot for as long as they want during opening times (provided you book on the website and Sports and Wellbeing). However, when shooting outdoors we kindly ask that you either turn up at the beginning OR stay until the end to help with setting up or taking down the range.

PLEASE NOTE: You will have to have completed the Beginners’ course to be eligible to shoot at these times.

Indoor Season (September – March)

We have a homely shed (20 yard indoor range) available for use 6 days a week during the indoor season and for the Beginners’ course. It is near Wessex lane Hall complex and is about a 15-minute walk from Highfield. It can get very dark very early in winter, so a flashlight may be recommended on your first visit.

Public Transportation

Bus:
The closest stops are Wessex Lane Halls on the Unilink U1 route or Mayfield Road/Woodmill Lane on the Unilink U6 or Bluestar 2 route. Please check these services for specific directions.
Train:
The closest station is Swaythling, which is called at by South Western Railway roughly once an hour. For those living near Portswood, this service also stops at St Denys station.
If you have a railcard, it’s most likely cheaper to take the train than bus. Check before buying tickets.

Individual Transportation

Driving:
Provided the gate is unlocked, you may drive into the watersports center. Parking is provided towards the back, next to the indoor range. The indoor range has a limited number of parking spaces inside the watersports center. Please use public transportation instead if possible.
Cycling:
If unlocked, you can cycle into the watersports center and park next to the range. Bikes can be locked to the railings outside the range at the owners’ risk.
Voi:
If you wish to use Voi electric scooters, the closest parking spaces are either outside Wessex Lane or the Woodmill Lane bus stop.

Outdoor Season (May – September)

During the outdoor season we have access to a 100m field on the ‘Island Site’ at Wide Lane Sports Ground. Wide Lane is the main university sports facility, and is based up near Southampton Airport Parkway; a 15 minute bus ride from Highfield. The Island is a short stroll from the car park past the tennis courts and through the underpass.

Public Transportation

Bus:
The closest stop is (Southampton) Airport on the Unilink U1 service. Most U1 buses terminate at this stop, but some do continue.
Train:
The closest station is Southampton Airport (Parkway), frequently called at by CrossCountry and South Western Railway. For those living near Portswood, South Western Railway provide a stopping service that stops at St Denys and (usually) Swaythling every hour. For those living near the center, trains frequently stop at Southampton Central. It may be cheaper to take the train, so do check prices.

Individual Transportation

Driving:
Wide Lane sports complex provides plenty of parking on-site. Access is usually fine for students and S&W members, otherwise you may have to press to call reception.
Cycling:
We recommend you park your bike at the island field where we shoot, at your own risk. Alternatively, bicycle parking spaces are provided near the Wide Lane reception. Directions depend on where you’re cycling from, so plan ahead.
Voi:
Southampton Airport and the Wide Lane sports complex are out of the Voi zone, so you cannot take the electric scooters there.
