Awards

While shooting with SUAC, you will be eligible to obtain badges once you shoot the corresponding scores associated to those badges!

There are indoor and outdoor badges, both of which have different colours to indicate your progression with archery. Badges are awarded yearly at the club AGM.

Indoor Badges

To qualify for a indoor badge, you must submit 3 Portsmouth (or specified other round) scores that meet or exceed the threshold points for a given bow style.
These scores may be of mixed rounds (e.g. 2 Portsmouth + 1 WA 18).
You must achieve three qualifying scores with the same bow style to achieve a badge.
You can achieve a badge for multiple different bow styles in a given year, as long as you submit three qualifying scores for each bow style.
These scores must be completed under competition conditions and submitted to the Records Officer. The colour of badge corresponds to the 3 scores achieved. Badges will be given out at the AGM.
You will receive only the badge corresponding to the highest score achieved for each bow style.

Competition conditions are:

  • Two ends of sighters only
  • Ends of 3 arrows
  • You cannot score your own arrows, and your scoresheet must have both your signature and the signature of the person who scored for you. Scores that do not have both signatures will not be accepted.

For a submitted scoresheet to count towards a badge, it must be fully completed with:

  • Archer name
  • Bow style
  • Date
  • All arrow scores, end totals, dozen totals, running totals, golds and hits
  • Archer’s signature
  • Scorer’s signature

The scores required for each colour are within the Indoor Badge Information document.

Outdoor Badges

In outdoor season, we use a different system to indoors due to the longer rounds and limited time we get per session.
The outdoor 252 badges are awarded for achieving a score of 252 (recurve) or higher with 3 dozen arrows at a specific distance. To qualify for a badge, you must submit 2 scores at one of these distances: 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 or 100yds.
The 2 scores must be shot on different days. The three dozen arrows may be shot alone or as the first three dozen of a longer Imperial round. These scores must be completed under the conditions shown below and submitted to the Records Officer. The colour of badge corresponds to the distance at which the scores were achieved.
You can achieve multiple 252 badges in a given year, so long as you submit 2 qualifying scores for the required distance, using the same bow style. You can use different bow styles for different distances, but you can only achieve one badge of each colour in a single year, regardless of bow style.
Badges will be awarded at the end of term.

Conditions for 252 scores are:

• One end of sighters only
• Ends of 6 arrows
• Imperial (5-zone) scoring must be used
• You cannot score your own arrows, and your scoresheet must have both your signature and the signature of the person who scored for you. Scores that do not have both signatures will not be accepted.

For a submitted scoresheet to count towards a badge, it must be fully
completed with:

• Archer name
• Bow style
• Date
• All arrow scores, end totals, dozen totals, running totals, golds and hits
• Archer’s signature
• Scorer’s signature

The distances and relative scores for different bow styles required for the different coloured badges are shown in the drop down table below.

ArcheryGB Badges

In addition to our internal badge schemes, SUAC archers are also eligible to achieve ArcheryGB classifications.
This is a system ran by AGB that classifies archers based on competition performance and handicap, with categories including Archer classes, Bowman classes, and Master Bowman classes.

Archer Class

To achieve a classification of Archer 3rd Class, Archer 2nd Class, or Archer 1st Class, archers have to shoot the required score for rounds totaling 10 dozen arrows for indoors or 12 dozen arrows outdoors (In practice this is 2 Portsmouth rounds or 2 WA720 rounds).

These rounds can be shot as part of a competition or in practice as long as a fully completed score sheet is provided (See section on Indoor Badges).

Bowman Class

Achieving a classification of Bowman 3rd Class, Bowman 2nd Class, or Bowman 1st Class is done in a similar way to the Archer classes with 2 main differences.

Firstly the number of total arrows shot increases from 10 to 15 dozen indoors and from 12 to 18 dozen outdoors, effectively increasing the required number of rounds from 2 to 3.

Secondly scores must be shot at a competition, club target day, or any event following AGB Rules of Shooting rule 304. It doesn’t need to be a serious competition as long as it is an event organised in advance, with multiple archers taking part and rules around practice/sighters and competition scoring rules.

Master Bowman Class

Master Bowman classifications are the highest classifications available and as such are the hardest to achieve. The indoor arrow requirement stays at 15 dozen but the outdoor requirement doubles to 32 dozen. Additionally, only scores shot at World Record Status or UK Record Status events count towards the classification.

To see the exact score requirements or for more information on AGB Classifications contact the Records officer or see AGB’s Indoor Classification and Outdoor Classifications webpages.
